So about a year ago I signed up for a fiber club's waiting list and got my first shipment last week. I unpacked my spinning wheel and found out I need to get some oil for it before I can use it, so I'm still using my spindle for now. I tried to spin a worsted weight yarn and it was fine until the spindle got just enough fiber on it to get wobbly and it was not fun.
Then it hit me - the only reason I can spin a certain weight of yarn is because that's the groove I get into with that spindle. no wonder people collect spindles with different weights! I can't wait to get my wheel set up so I have more options. I wound up the yarn I had spun on my wrist, plied it, and knit a swatch. I definitely want to spin thinner on this spindle. I think I'm going to start knitting swatches and hanging them up on a clothesline by my desk.
